Is beauty pageants outdated?

For people who are unaware about beauty pageants and who eat up the propagandas of the patriarchal society and proponents of those agendas it is outdated. But for those who follow it’s journey and it's growth , it’s a progressive movements.

Lara Dutta , Miss Universe 2000 and 2nd person for India to claim that title, says that “ Everybody’s knowns me as the Miss Universe 2000. I have heard innumerable times that , people saying like , a beauty queen? A beauty pageant? What’s that? Isn’t it demeaning to women? Seriously! They are going to put a crown on the most beautiful women’s head! But I will tell you this, that opportunity gave me an incredible opportunity to be UN Goodwill Ambassador for 14 years of my life and to work on some transformations that happened, I was able to advocate for PCPNDT Act – which enforced in India, that doesn’t allow you to determine the gender of fetus, which prevents female feticide. That was some thing that came out of being a Miss Universe!! I worked with wonderful scientists in Harward AIDS Institute, addressing AIDS issues not only in South Asia but in some Saharan African areas. We worked with wonderful programs against human trafficking especially for women and girls, coming out of Nepal region and North East India. So these are some of the incredible opportunities you will get from walking down a stage being crowned with a Crown.” This is the words of the candidate who gone through the process of the beauty pageants.
